Platform Tech Lead (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with three days on-site per week in the office. Working from abroad is available for up to 10 days per year, subject to business and team requirements. Relocation support and visa-process assistance are available.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for the Application Platform and turn approved decisions into architecture, service interfaces, technical standards, and delivery plans.
• Lead cross-team platform initiatives and migrations, including build-versus-buy analysis and technical decision-making.
• Design, build, and operate platform capabilities and automation across managed services, AWS EKS, and the shared software-delivery path.
• Build secure APIs, automation, self-service workflows, and machine-usable interfaces for AI agents based on recurring developer needs.
• Improve reliability, observability, security, maintainability, performance, incident learning, and disaster recovery; participate in the shared on-call rotation.
• Work with product teams, senior engineers, Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and Security; explain technical decisions and mentor engineers across career levels.

Requirements

• Experience as a product engineer building and operating production services end to end, with an interest in applying this experience to platforms used by other engineers.
• Production software development experience in Go, TypeScript, or Python, including the ability to work across unfamiliar codebases.
• Experience designing, building, debugging, and operating services on AWS and Kubernetes, including EKS or a comparable Kubernetes environment.
• Experience automating infrastructure and software delivery through infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated testing, and safe rollout and recovery practices; AWS CDK is used, while Terraform or Pulumi experience is also relevant.
• Ability to turn developer needs into secure, reliable APIs, automation, and self-service workflows, and to help teams adopt shared capabilities.
• Experience leading technical work without an established approach, making architecture and build-versus-buy decisions, aligning people without formal authority, communicating trade-offs clearly, and mentoring engineers across career levels.
• SRE experience covering observability, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident learning, and recovery; willingness to join the shared on-call rotation after onboarding.
• Experience using AI tools to drive problem-solving and productivity while maintaining effective human oversight and judgment.
