Staff Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Shanghai or Chengdu, with 1 day per week in the office

What you will do

• Lead complex engineering initiatives and coordinate delivery across engineers and AI coding agents.
• Own squad architecture and technical direction, designing scalable solutions and reusable components.
• Drive design reviews, code quality, system reliability, deployments, and continuous improvement.
• Design and improve AI-augmented workflows for code generation, testing, and documentation.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams to turn business needs into technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers, resolve complex technical challenges, and influence engineering practices across teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building, architecting, and scaling production software systems.
• Deep expertise in at least one programming language, including JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, Ruby, PHP, or C#, with the ability to adapt across technology stacks.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and architectural judgment.
• Experience leading complex engineering initiatives, coordinating engineers, and driving predictable delivery.
• Experience designing scalable, reusable solutions and balancing short-term needs with long-term value.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and AI-augmented engineering workflows.
• Technical leadership and communication skills, including mentoring and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience owning production systems, overseeing deployments, and improving system reliability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby on Rails or Node.js; experience with both is a plus.
• Familiarity with React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Experience with AWS, Terraform, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.
