Lead Electronic Engineer Consultant (Medical Devices)

Location: Cambridge, UK; work is based at hirify.global's campus in Melbourn, south of Cambridge, with travel for in-person meetings and client engagements.

What you will do

• Lead electronic engineering across the full product lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through detailed design, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacture.
• Translate client, clinical, and user needs into engineering requirements and commercially viable solutions for advanced surgical medical technologies.
• Lead small and medium-sized projects or workstreams, owning electronics work packages while balancing technical risk, cost, speed, quality, and regulatory considerations.
• Define system architectures, identify subsystem interactions, and communicate complex engineering topics to multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Review project scope, support proposals and business development, and provide technical and commercial guidance.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and help build collaborative project teams.

Requirements

• Significant electronic engineering experience in product development, ideally in medical devices, surgical systems, or another highly regulated sector.
• Ability to design complex schematics and PCB layouts for analogue, digital, and power circuitry in embedded systems, including high-speed digital designs.
• Experience taking complex products or systems from concept through development and transfer to manufacture.
• Strong project management skills, including requirements gathering, planning, prioritisation, stakeholder communication, and delivery against milestones.
• Commercial acumen and the ability to consider product value, manufacturability, cost, risk, and client needs in engineering decisions.
• Collaborative, proactive, driven, adaptable, and able to take ownership in fast-moving multidisciplinary teams.
• Clear, confident, and empathetic communication skills, with the ability to build trust with clients and colleagues.
• Willingness to travel for in-person meetings and client engagements.

Nice to have

• Awareness of electronic system design, digital electronics, embedded systems, and FPGA development.
• Experience with C and C++ in embedded or hardware-adjacent development environments.
• Interest in exploring new perspectives, strategic focus, commercial awareness, and experience coaching others.
