HPC Software Engineer (C/C++)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States

Base pay: $165,000–$180,000 per year for 5+ years of experience; $180,000–$250,000 for 7+ years; $250,000–$300,000 for 10+ years.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize HPC software using C, C++, Python, and Linux.
• Implement parallel computing algorithms for modern CPU and GPU architectures using OpenMP, CUDA, SIMD, SIMT, AVX, and SVE.
• Analyze performance bottlenecks and improve execution speed, memory efficiency, scalability, and hardware utilization.
• Develop and maintain applications for physics simulations, fluid dynamics, molecular dynamics, and scientific computing.
• Improve code generation and execution efficiency at the systems and compiler levels.
• Contribute to architecture, technical decisions, code reviews, risk mitigation, research, and new HPC technologies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in HPC environments; senior-level experience of 7–10+ years is strongly preferred.
• Expert-level proficiency in C, C++, Python, and Linux.
• Strong expertise with HPC tools, libraries, and frameworks including OpenMP, TBB or oneTBB, and CMake.
• Experience with physics simulations, fluid dynamics, and molecular dynamics.
• Strong understanding of parallel computing, concurrency, multithreading, and performance optimization.
• Applied experience with CPU/GPU architectures and CUDA, AVX, SIMD, and SIMT optimization techniques, including hands-on GPU enablement.
• Experience developing, profiling, debugging, and optimizing computationally intensive applications.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across architecture concepts, implementation, and debugging.
• Ability to work independently on complex engineering problems and collaborate with distributed and cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
• Principal-level experience, defined as 10+ years; senior-level experience is defined as 7+ years.
• Experience with Julia, assembly language, LLVM, compiler infrastructure, or compiler optimization.
• Experience with supercomputers, large-scale compute clusters, or hyperscale infrastructure.
• Experience leading complex projects from concept to completion.
• Strong communication, mentoring, technical influence, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Background in scientific computing, numerical methods, computational physics, fluid dynamics, molecular dynamics, or large-scale simulations.
• US citizenship preferred.
