Director Security Operations (Cybersecurity)

Location: Sparks, Nevada, United States; in-office, with hybrid work possible and travel as needed

What you will do

• Lead 24x7x365 multi-tier SOC operations, including operational cadence, shift handovers, escalation paths, SLAs/SLOs, SOPs, playbooks, and runbooks.
• Serve as senior escalation point and incident commander during critical threats, breaches, and outages; lead crisis response, threat hunting, and active defense.
• Direct cloud-security engineering for detection, response, and monitoring pipelines across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Oversee SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, cloud-native security platforms, detection engineering, rule tuning, and pipeline efficiency.
• Lead adoption of machine learning, predictive threat analytics, and autonomous AI agents for automated triage, alert enrichment, and remediation.
• Manage executive and client briefings, cyber threat intelligence, operational reporting, security budgets, and cross-functional stakeholder relationships.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a higher-level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
• 13+ years of related experience, including at least 6+ years in a leadership role such as Director, Senior Manager, or equivalent, and 7+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience.
• Verifiable experience leading operations in an MSSP, government or defense intelligence agency SOC, or Fortune 500 enterprise SOC.
• Proven leadership of incident response and crisis management in high-stress, mission-critical situations under strict time constraints.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-security architectures, automation/SOAR pipelines, and ML/AI-driven detection tooling.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical threat analyses to executive committees and enterprise clients.
• Strong knowledge of information security, industrial security, regulatory compliance, policy development, risk assessment, and process improvement.
• Ability to interpret regulations and apply sound judgment, communicate BLUF, simplify complex information, and make timely decisions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for employment.

Nice to have

• Deep knowledge of threat-actor TTPs, malware-analysis lifecycles, and forensic methodologies.
• Experience with LLMs, generative AI, or agentic frameworks in security workflows.
• Experience with Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, CrowdStrike Falcon, Palo Alto Cortex XSOAR, or Datadog.
• Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
• CISSP, CISM, CCISO, or advanced GIAC certifications such as GCIH, GCFA, GNFA, or GCDA.
