Director, Cyber Defense

Location: Remote - Virginia; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Flexible work hours and participation in on-call rotations are required to support global operations.

Annual base salary: $220,000–$240,000, plus a 22% annual bonus target.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Cyber Defense organization delivering detection, incident response, and security engineering capabilities.
• Execute cyber defense strategy by translating enterprise objectives into operational roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
• Oversee incident response operations and act as incident commander for significant cybersecurity events.
• Improve detection coverage, response speed, and reduction of business impact from security incidents.
• Guide security engineering across on-premises, IaaS, and SaaS environments, including security tooling strategy and integration.
• Oversee security telemetry onboarding and communicate risk, incidents, metrics, and program performance to technical and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience leading or managing technical teams in cyber defense, security operations, or security engineering.
• 2–3 years of experience leading and managing managers.
• Strong experience in incident response, detection, and cybersecurity operations.
• Experience leading high-severity incidents and crisis response.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to non-technical and executive stakeholders.
• Ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders, navigate challenging conversations, and align competing priorities.
• Experience leading distributed or globally dispersed teams.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Honesty, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM, EDR, SOAR, and security analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with AWS and Azure.
• Experience with Agile or modern delivery and operating models.
• Knowledge of privacy, regulatory, and compliance considerations affecting cyber defense.
