TL;DR
Senior MAIT Electrical and Test Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and operating electrical test equipment and automated functional tests for spacecraft, engineering models, and test beds with an accent on test-system architecture, instrumentation, and requirements traceability. Focus on designing LabVIEW and/or VeriStand test software, investigating anomalies, executing hands-on hardware tests, and preparing systems for environmental tests and launch campaigns.

Location: Munich, Germany; relocation assistance and visa sponsorship are provided where applicable.

Company

The Exploration Company develops, produces, and operates Nyx, a modular and reusable orbital spacecraft designed to carry cargo and potentially humans.

What you will do

  • Own electrical test equipment and functional-test capabilities for flight hardware, engineering models, and test beds from definition through delivery, use, and maintenance.
  • Define test requirements, architectures, interfaces, safety constraints, risks, dependencies, procedures, sequences, traceability, and objective pass/fail criteria.
  • Lead the electrical design, integration, assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of test equipment, including power, signal, communication, measurement, instrumentation, cabling, and software interfaces.
  • Develop and review automated functional-test software, data acquisition, and test sequences in LabVIEW and/or VeriStand with interlocks, limit checks, safe-stop behavior, and maintainable test records.
  • Plan and support test readiness reviews and perform unit-, subsystem-, and system-level electrical and functional tests on engineering and flight hardware.
  • Investigate anomalies, assess test data, distinguish unit-under-test issues from test-system issues, support retest and closure, coordinate with relevant engineering and quality teams, and participate in environmental tests and launch campaigns.

Requirements

  • Degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or a comparable qualification.
  • Significant hands-on experience with electrical/electronic components and systems, ideally in spacecraft AIT or functional verification.
  • Experience independently planning and delivering electrical or functional tests for complex hardware from requirements and interfaces through execution and evidence review.
  • Practical experience developing functional tests from requirements, including test strategy, procedures, acceptance criteria, traceability, and test-data review.
  • Experience with electrical test-equipment design and integration, instrumentation, cabling, connectors, power and signal interfaces, physical assembly, commissioning, and network configuration using TCP/IP.
  • Ability to develop and review automated test software in LabVIEW and/or VeriStand, with experience in data acquisition, test automation, measurement-chain verification, and systematic troubleshooting.
  • Experience preparing hardware and test systems for controlled testing, including safety controls, configuration management, and objective test records.
  • Ability to lead anomaly investigations, communicate uncertainty and risk, agree evidence-based retest or closure actions, and provide technical guidance or reviews to colleagues.
  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, data reports, electrical schematics, and design specifications; willingness to work hands-on with flight hardware.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; willingness to travel worldwide for test and launch campaigns.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Python or similar programming languages.
  • Exposure to Mission Control Software platforms such as CCS5 or COSMOS; COSMOS experience is a plus.
  • Experience with communication and power test equipment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Agile environment with fast decision-making aligned with mission goals and system needs.
  • Open and collaborative culture focused on transparent communication of risks and obstacles.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of reusable orbital spacecraft for cargo and future human missions.
  • Relocation assistance, including visa sponsorship where applicable.
  • Equal opportunity employer with a commitment to diversity and non-discrimination.

Hiring process

  • Submit a CV for immediate consideration.
  • Offers are contingent on a background check subject to the applicable country, role, and project.
