Assistant Design Lead (Engine)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid with on-site work at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel required: less than 25%. The role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Support the execution, integration, release, and continuous improvement of engine systems and subsystems.
• Mentor designers on system requirements, GM CAD tools, Teamcenter, data management, modeling methods, and virtual integration.
• Develop criteria, typical sections, standard modeling methods, virtual integration methods, advanced math models, layouts, and design concepts.
• Integrate components and subsystems into complete engine systems while applying DFM, DFA, packaging, serviceability, and manufacturing considerations.
• Lead engineering studies, including clearance and load analysis, packaging, mass roll-ups, feasibility studies, fluid circuits, and VisBOM development; support CAE, NX analysis, alternative studies, and optimization.
• Facilitate design reviews, resolve issues with cross-functional teams, manage MHC assignments, release designs on time, and drive process improvements using AI and digital tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in engine, propulsion, powertrain, or vehicle design engineering.
• Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX CAD and Teamcenter.
• Strong understanding of engine architecture and subsystem integration, GD&T, manufacturing processes, DFA, DFM, virtual development methods, and release and development processes.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and technically lead engineering teams.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
