Embedded Software Engineer – Co-op Winter 2027 (C/C++)

Pay: CAD 25.00–34.00 per hour

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain Linux and VxWorks kernels and base software components.
• Develop drivers for proprietary and third-party ASICs, FPGAs, and other hardware components.
• Build hardware/software interfaces across abstraction layers.
• Develop fault and alarm subsystems for defect detection, reporting, maintenance, hysteresis, and correlation.
• Develop traffic and equipment protection, performance monitoring, and other system applications.
• Develop SDKs that abstract low-level software and hardware for platform application development and integration.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a similar discipline.
• Experience with C or C++.

Nice to have

• Experience developing software for embedded systems or telecom products.
• Understanding of CPU architectures, hardware functional specifications, timing diagrams, and device data sheets.
• Understanding of real-time operating systems and embedded systems.
• Experience with development tools such as Git, BitBucket, Gerrit, and Jira.
• Experience with unit test frameworks such as Google Test, JUnit, Robot, or PyTest.
• Experience with debuggers such as GDB, especially for embedded systems in user and kernel space.
• Knowledge of Java, Python, Perl, Tcl, Bash, YANG modeling and toolchains, Agile or Waterfall methodologies, and datacom or telecom concepts including DWDM, SONET/SDH, OTN, Ethernet, the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and MPLS.
