QNX Systems Software Developer (Embedded)

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Base salary: $80,000–$105,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop software in C, C++, Python, and Rust for the QNX RTOS across runtimes, networking, middleware, Physical AI, robotics, and embedded target platforms.
• Integrate open-source projects with QNX graphics, networking, USB, audio, sensors, and multimedia technologies.
• Develop OS-specific abstraction layers, shims, and porting libraries, and adapt cross-compilation build systems for QNX toolchains.
• Profile and optimize embedded software by reducing memory footprint, tuning latency, and improving performance on target hardware.
• Develop, integrate, test, and maintain technology demonstrations for customers, partners, and industry audiences, focused on Physical AI and robotics.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills in C, C++14/17/20, and Python.
• Proven experience with Linux and/or QNX development environments.
• Solid understanding of operating system internals and POSIX APIs, including pthreads, IPC, memory management, and networking sockets.
• Excellent communication skills and an interest in collaborating with open-source developer communities.
• Self-motivated approach and passion for building software ecosystems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience porting, building, or maintaining large open-source projects or Linux distributions.
• Experience or interest in Physical AI, robotics, or vision frameworks such as ROS 2, OpenPI, MediaPipe, ONNX Runtime, PyTorch/ExecuTorch, TensorFlow, or OpenCV.
• Experience with GPU or heterogeneous compute stacks, including NVIDIA CUDA/TensorRT, AMD ROCm, Vulkan Compute, or OpenCL.
• Knowledge of embedded GUI engines, automotive or industrial middleware, RTOS environments, or Linux kernel and driver internals.
• Familiarity with Rust and Cargo build targets for embedded or systems programming.
