TL;DR
Sr Engineering Designer - Transmissions and Drive Units (Automotive): Designing and integrating complex transmission and drive unit components from concept through validation, release, and launch with an accent on advanced Siemens NX modeling, product structures, GD&T, and manufacturability. Focus on resolving cross-functional design challenges, interpreting CAE results, leading DFM/DFA reviews, and delivering robust automotive systems.

Location: Hybrid, with on-site work at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week; locations include Pontiac and Warren, Michigan, United States. Travel is required up to 25%.

Company

hirify.global develops vehicles, battery systems, software, safety features, and connected mobility products.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and integration of complex transmission and drive unit components, subsystems, and interfaces from concept through validation, release, and launch.
  • Translate engineering, safety, regulatory, customer, and manufacturing requirements into robust designs and make trade-offs involving performance, cost, mass, timing, dimensional variation, assembly, serviceability, and manufacturability.
  • Develop advanced Siemens NX models and assemblies, including parametric, associative, and Wave-linked techniques, clearance, interference, packaging, and integration studies.
  • Create and release 2D drawings and PMI with GD&T, dimensional strategies, tolerance stacks, Design Execution Sections, notes, and interface requirements.
  • Manage product structures and design data in Teamcenter and related tools; interpret CAE and designer-led analysis results.
  • Lead DFM/DFA reviews, technical discussions, corrective actions, benchmarking, continuous improvement, and mentoring across engineering, manufacturing, safety, CAE, suppliers, and program teams.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in automotive engineering design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced Siemens NX experience with complex modeling, assemblies, design intent, Wave linking, and clearance analysis.
  • Advanced experience with Teamcenter, TcC, Active Workspace, TcVis, and product-structure management.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings and PMI using GD&T, tolerance analysis, dimensional strategies, and interface definitions.
  • Knowledge of automotive engineering principles, safety, durability, regulatory requirements, and design verification.
  • Experience with DFM/DFA, manufacturing processes, fastening standards, plant requirements, CAE interpretation, digital vehicle tools, configuration, issue, and engineering-change management.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, planning, decision-making, organization, ownership, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional work, influence decisions, mentor others, and manage multiple technical deliverables.

Nice to have

  • Transmission and drive unit design experience involving gears, shafts, housings, clutches, differentials, lubrication, actuation, mounts, or related interfaces.
  • Experience integrating vehicle architecture, manufacturing, safety, CAE, dimensional engineering, and program requirements.
  • Graduate degree in engineering.
  • Experience with Standard Math Models, user-defined features, reusable design templates, Design for Six Sigma, NX Performance Predictor, NX Pre/Post, SimSolid, dimensional engineering, tolerance stacks, variation management, and launch quality.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work arrangement with regular on-site presence at the Warren Tech Center.
  • Benefits and total rewards supporting well-being at work and at home.
  • Inclusive workplace with equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodations.
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support.
