Backend Team Lead (ML)

Location: Office-based in Limassol, Cyprus. The role includes relocation support and a 3-year Cyprus work visa with full visa-process assistance.

Salary: €6,500–€7,500 net per month.

What you will do

• Design and build production ML services, including APIs, microservices, and real-time systems.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a backend engineering team through planning, code reviews, technical guidance, and engineering best practices.
• Drive architecture for scalable, reliable, maintainable, low-latency, and high-load ML-powered systems.
• Integrate ML models into user-facing applications and define serving, versioning, and production-monitoring practices.
• Own the delivery pipeline of ML features and collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, DevOps, and MLOps teams.
• Identify and eliminate bottlenecks between ML experimentation and production.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend or software engineering experience in a Lead or Senior role, including mentoring, ownership, and technical decision-making.
• Strong commercial Python experience.
• Managerial experience leading an engineering team.
• Experience designing and building production backend systems and microservice architectures.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and high-load systems.
• Experience developing APIs with FastAPI, Flask, gRPC, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience with code reviews, mentoring, and technical decision-making.
• Ability to drive cross-team collaboration and own complex technical integrations.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time ML systems such as recommendations, ranking, or personalization.
• Experience in video streaming or high-throughput platforms.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud or on-premises environments.
• Experience with feature stores, model monitoring, or A/B testing.
• Experience working alongside MLOps platforms such as MLflow or Airflow.

Hiring process

• HR interview: 45 minutes.
• Technical interview: 90 minutes, followed by a 90-minute live code-review interview.
• Final interview with the team: 60 minutes.
