TL;DR
Quantum Device Modeling Engineer (Quantum Devices): Developing and validating predictive models and model libraries for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, cryogenic, and other emerging non-CMOS devices with an accent on device physics, characterization data, and QPDK design enablement. Focus on correlating models with electrical, optical, RF, and cryogenic measurements, implementing simulation-ready models, and qualifying releases across complex operating conditions.
Location: USA - New York - Malta; other location: Essex Junction. Onsite role with up to 10% travel.
Expected salary: $98,000.00–$176,000.00 per year; exact salary depends on qualifications, experience, and location.
Company
hirify.global is a full-service semiconductor foundry providing design, development, and fabrication services with a global manufacturing footprint.
What you will do
Develop physics-based, behavioral, and compact models for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, cryogenic passive, and other emerging non-CMOS devices.
Plan model-extraction and validation workflows using electrical, optical, RF/microwave, and cryogenic characterization data.
Correlate models with measured data, multiphysics simulations, and device physics; identify limitations and drive corrective actions.
Define device structures, process parameters, and characterization vehicles for scalable validation across geometry, temperature, frequency, wavelength, and operating conditions.
Implement and qualify models in circuit, electromagnetic, and photonic simulation environments, including regression testing, convergence checks, documentation, and release readiness.
Develop QPDK and heterogeneous-integration model libraries and design collateral, and collaborate with device, process, packaging, PDK, EDA, and circuit-design teams.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, Microelectronics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience in device physics, device modeling, multiphysics simulation, parameter extraction, or characterization of superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, RF/microwave, or other non-CMOS devices.
Strong foundation in semiconductor and solid-state device physics, with the ability to translate physical behavior into predictive simulation models.
Hands-on experience modeling at least one non-CMOS device class, including Josephson-junction devices, SQUIDs, superconducting resonators or interconnects, waveguides, modulators, ring resonators, photodetectors, lasers, or cryogenic passive structures.
Experience correlating models with measured electrical, optical, RF/microwave, or cryogenic data and defining validation criteria across relevant operating ranges.
Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis with Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools in a Linux/Unix environment.
Experience with at least one relevant simulation environment, such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Ansys HFSS, Ansys Lumerical, Keysight ADS, Cadence Virtuoso/Spectre, or an equivalent tool.
Ability to communicate technical conclusions clearly to device, process, characterization, PDK, EDA, and design stakeholders.
Fluent written and verbal English; willingness to travel up to 10%.
Nice to have
Master’s degree or PhD in a related engineering, physics, photonics, microelectronics, or quantum-engineering field.
Experience with superconducting devices, photonic or optoelectronic elements, equivalent-circuit or compact models, behavioral or reduced-order models, electromagnetic or multiphysics modeling.
Knowledge of cryogenic material behavior, RF/microwave effects, optical loss and dispersion, variability, parasitics, thermal effects, and model convergence.
Experience with Verilog-A, SPICE subcircuits, photonic compact-model libraries, QPDK/PDK releases, model QA, regression testing, version control, and customer-facing documentation.
Familiarity with heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, superconducting interposers, quantum interconnects, or electrical, optical, thermal, and electromagnetic co-simulation.
Work must be performed at the Malta, New York location; up to 10% travel is required.
The role may require applying for a US Department of Defense Security Clearance during employment; eligibility may be assessed through citizenship and background questions.
Employment is subject to applicable pre-employment conditions, laws, and regulations.
