Senior Engineer, Data & Perception (AI/Robotics)

Location: Onsite at the Cypress, California facility, with regular time at the Redondo Beach, California facility. Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Own instrumentation of production lines, including cameras, sensors, capture software, and reliable edge hardware.
• Build pipelines and storage for video, sensor, and robot data linked to jobs, operations, and parts in factory software.
• Develop and deploy computer vision for inspection, step and activity recognition, part and wire detection, and robotic-cell sensing.
• Generate automated time studies, step logs, and photo records to support planning, pricing, and quality.
• Build demonstration capture, labeling, datasets, and evaluation infrastructure for robot learning in partnership with the robotics team.
• Establish data governance and security practices, evaluate vendors and platforms, and help hire and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building production data infrastructure or perception systems, including systems where you served as technical lead.
• Experience training, deploying, and monitoring computer-vision models on camera data from manufacturing, robotics, logistics, or similar physical-world settings.
• Experience engineering capture, pipelines, storage, labeling, and training and evaluation tooling for large volumes of video and sensor data.
• Experience selecting, calibrating, and synchronizing cameras and sensors on real hardware, including edge compute.
• Strong Python and SQL, a deep-learning framework such as PyTorch, and experience deploying to cloud and edge; C++ where performance requires it.
• Track record of rapid prototyping, testing on real hardware, and iterating toward reliable results.
• Ability to own a technical area end to end, collaborate with senior engineers, and communicate clearly with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, robotics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

• Robot-learning data infrastructure, including teleoperation or demonstration capture, dataset management, and evaluation.
• Activity or step recognition from video, automated time studies, or integration with MES, ERP, or factory software.
• Experience with export-controlled or regulated data such as ITAR, CUI, or CMMC.
• Experience with wire harnesses, cable assembly, or other high-mix assembly.
• Startup or high-growth company experience and experience mentoring engineers or helping build a team.
