Sr. Principal Engineer - Vision Intelligence (AI)

Location: Hybrid in hirify.global, Wisconsin, United States; other listed locations are remote in Michigan or Wisconsin, United States.

Salary: $104,100–$173,900 per year.

What you will do

• Lead Vision Intelligence initiatives spanning computer vision, machine learning, and edge AI across multiple vehicle segments.
• Define the technical roadmap and reusable models, datasets, frameworks, and system architectures.
• Establish model development, validation, AI governance, and MLOps practices with traceable and repeatable processes.
• Define AI performance requirements covering accuracy, latency, robustness, confidence, compute utilization, and operating-domain limitations.
• Lead deployment and optimization across embedded, edge, and cloud platforms while partnering with Edge, Cloud, Systems, Controls, and Integration teams.
• Review production readiness, evaluate emerging technologies, transition IR&D solutions into production, mentor engineers, and collaborate with research and technology partners.

Requirements

• Accredited master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or a related technical field, with 8 or more years of related experience.
• Experience developing and deploying AI or computer vision solutions across embedded, edge, or cloud environments.
• Strong Python programming experience and working knowledge of C/C++ or equivalent production AI and embedded-systems languages.
• Experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, OpenCV, CUDA, or TensorRT.
• Ability to lead complex technical projects, work across multidisciplinary engineering teams, and mentor engineers.
• Regular attendance is required.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Computer Vision, with 4 or more years of related experience.
• Automotive or heavy-duty vehicle experience, including vehicle control systems, CAN bus, and vehicle architecture.
• Experience evaluating make, buy, or partner options and developing intellectual property or patents.
