Senior Software Engineer (Frontend/AI Robotics)

Location: Seattle, United States; strong onsite collaboration at AIM offices, labs, and proving grounds on the east side of the Greater Seattle area.

What you will do

• Architect and build a shared design system covering component APIs, accessibility, theming, versioning, deprecation, migration tooling, and developer experience.
• Build the safety-critical Operator UI, including live 3D scenes with Three.js, React Three Fiber, Drei, point clouds, terrain meshes, geofences, machine overlays, teleoperation controls, and live video streaming.
• Shape a multi-tenant SaaS administration portal with relationship-based authorization, internationalization including RTL, and real-time data.
• Deliver production-ready TypeScript with strong quality, accessibility, performance, reliability, testing, and observability.
• Partner with TPMs, design, autonomy, controls, hardware, field operations, and FDEs to ensure reliable operation on real machines and customer sites.
• Lead reviews and architectural discussions, mentor junior and mid-level engineers, and improve CI/CD, testing, and local development tooling.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Design, HCI, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production frontend systems.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and React, including hooks, suspense, and concurrent rendering.
• Experience with 3D web graphics, including Three.js, React Three Fiber, Drei, WebGL, shaders, GLTF pipelines, BVH acceleration, or point-cloud rendering.
• Experience with real-time data and binary serialization, including Protocol Buffers, gRPC-web, WebSockets, or high-frequency web telemetry.
• Experience with modern frontend tooling such as Vite, npm/pnpm/yarn workspaces, Storybook, and modern testing stacks.
• Strong debugging skills using browser devtools, logs, telemetry, metrics, and tracing.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality software independently and in cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Experience across the whole stack when needed.
• Safety-critical or industrial UI experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, medical, defense, or energy.
• Experience with XState or statecharts for safe UI flows.
• Experience with TanStack Router, TanStack Query, Zustand, Tailwind CSS, tailwind-variants, Floating UI, Mantine, or Visx.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS authorization, including ReBAC or ABAC.
• Frontend infrastructure experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, micro-frontends, OpenTelemetry, or Sentry.
