TL;DR
Senior Ground Software Engineer (Telemetry & Control) (Aerospace): Architecting and building an end-to-end ground data pipeline that ingests, processes, stores, and visualizes aircraft telemetry while enabling aircraft command, with an accent on low latency, fault tolerance, and time-series data. Focus on designing systems that deliver telemetry to operators within roughly one second, withstand network and cloud failures, and integrate aircraft and ground interfaces.
Location: San Francisco, United States. Working in the office five days a week is an essential part of the role.
Salary: $175K–$250K annually.
Company
hirify.global is a vertically integrated aerospace startup developing a scalable technology platform for critical infrastructure, mission operations, and the future of flight.
What you will do
Architect and build the end-to-end ground data pipeline, from aircraft radio telemetry ingestion through real-time processing, storage, backend APIs, business logic, and Mission Control visualization.
Drive approximately one-second latency from aircraft to operator display across the entire system.
Design fault-tolerant systems that protect aircraft operations during network failures, service crashes, and cloud-region outages.
Select and operate database technologies, including time-series databases, for flight telemetry.
Build operator tools for monitoring aircraft health and commanding the plane.
Define aircraft-to-ground interfaces with flight software and other engineering disciplines.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or a Science discipline and 5+ years of professional software development experience.
Experience building real-time data or telemetry ingestion and processing systems.
Experience implementing a cloud stack that ingests data, stores it in a database, and processes it to serve an application.
Hands-on experience with time-series databases and a strong understanding of trade-offs between database technologies and data-ingestion approaches.
Experience designing low-latency, high-reliability systems, including fault tolerance for network and service failures.
Proficiency in the languages, frameworks, and API design used to expose database data to applications.
Breadth across the stack, with greatest depth on the backend and cloud side; experience with every layer is not required.
Nice to have
Front-end experience building web applications that query a server and render live data.
Experience with telemetry from physical systems such as aircraft, launch vehicles, satellites, autonomous vehicles, or connected vehicle fleets; radio links; or mission-control and observability tooling.
Culture & Benefits
Fast-paced startup environment with a flat structure, pragmatic engineering culture, and direct mission impact.
In-office work five days a week is essential for collaboration.
Medical, dental, and vision insurance, including Flexible Spending Accounts.
401(k) program and transparent stock option plan.
Self-managed flexible time off, including PTO, paid holidays, and sick time.
