Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA; on-site. Relocation assistance is available for those joining in San Francisco.

Salary: USD 160,000–250,000 per year plus equity.

hirify.global is building an AI-human translation layer and multimodal foundation models focused on human goals, cognition, emotional wellness, and understanding people.

What you will do

• Build and own the backend architecture for multimodal data collection, including capture, buffering, processing, storage, and retrieval.
• Design fault-tolerant ingestion for intermittent sensor connectivity, hardware failures, and network issues without data loss.
• Develop concurrent multi-process applications and a unified device abstraction layer for USB, BLE, TCP/IP, and other interfaces.
• Design TB-scale storage topologies, file formats, database schemas, and indexing strategies for video, audio, text, and time-series data.
• Provision and configure on-premise servers and build synchronization from local edge buffers to the central cloud repository.
• Collaborate with the AI team to deliver high-performance, training-ready datasets for foundation models.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience shipping production-grade backend systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python, Rust, C++, or Go.
• Proficiency with high-performance messaging and queuing tools such as ZeroMQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Redis Pub/Sub for inter-process communication.
• Strong experience architecting and managing infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience implementing low-latency streaming protocols including WebRTC, RTSP, or HLS for live video and audio over local networks.
• Proficiency with programmatic video processing using FFmpeg, GStreamer, or OpenCV, plus knowledge of container formats, H.264/H.265 codecs, and keyframe alignment.
• Experience with zero-copy networking, shared memory IPC, or memory-mapped files; time-series databases such as TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, or ClickHouse; and data-lake formats such as Parquet, Avro, or Arrow.
• Solid networking fundamentals, adaptability in solving novel technical problems, commitment to human well-being, and ability to work in a collaborative, high-bandwidth environment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with modern ML framework data requirements, including PyTorch or TensorFlow, GPU-saturating datasets, prefetching, shared memory, and caching.
• Interest in neurotech, mental health, or human-AI interaction.
