TL;DR
Mechatronics Engineer – Robotics & Grasping (Robotics/Machine Vision): Designing and building industrial vision-guided robotic cells, VuePort cameras, calibration systems, tooling, and robot integrations with an accent on mechanical and electrical design, 3D perception, and hardware production. Focus on researching calibration methods, optimizing robot motion, running structured Python experiments, and taking automation products from prototype to production.
Location: Vancouver, Canada; in-person work at the Vancouver office and research and development lab.
Salary: $120,000–$145,000 CAD per year.
Company
hirify.global develops 4D machine-vision software, cameras, simulation tools, and turnkey robotic cells for flexible factory automation, including bin picking, sorting, packaging, and assembly.
What you will do
Own and improve calibration methods, calibration systems, fixtures, targets, and tooling for VuePort 3D cameras.
Research, prototype, benchmark, and productionize calibration and metrology techniques.
Design and build VuePort cameras, enclosures, optics, mounts, thermal and sealing solutions, assembly fixtures, and production processes.
Build and maintain C++ and Python robot drivers for ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Universal Robots, and other platforms; optimize motion profiles, cycle time, and vision-to-motion timing.
Design complete industrial cells, including end-of-arm tooling, mounts, fixtures, layouts, safety systems, wiring, and panels.
Run Python-based tests, measure accuracy, repeatability, and cycle time, support field deployments, perform root-cause analysis, and contribute from prototyping through production handoff.
Requirements
3–6 years of hands-on experience in mechatronics, robotics, or automation engineering.
Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
Strong mechanical design skills with CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks, including tooling, fixtures, enclosures, assemblies, GD&T, and design for manufacturing.
Experience taking hardware products from prototype to production, including DFM/DFA, supplier management, and assembly documentation.
Solid electrical design and integration skills covering wiring, sensors, motor and actuator selection, panel layout, basic PLC/IO, and electrical safety for industrial cells.
Proficiency in Python for test scripts, data analysis, and tooling; working ability in C++ to read, debug, and contribute to a large codebase.
Ability to prototype quickly, test rigorously, document clearly, communicate effectively, and collaborate cross-functionally.
Ability to work in person at the Vancouver office and lab.
Nice to have
Experience building or maintaining calibration pipelines and familiarity with 2D machine-vision cameras, lenses, lighting, and optics.
Experience writing robot drivers or working with robot vendor SDKs and real-time communication.
ROS/ROS 2, motion planning, kinematics, or industrial robot programming and API experience.
Understanding of intrinsics, extrinsics, stereo, hand-eye, and TCP calibration, including accuracy and error-stack-up analysis.
Field deployment, commissioning, or bin-picking experience.
Culture & Benefits
Equity for every employee and comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
Personalized development plans, team upskilling, and dedicated time for innovation.
Close-knit, agile team working on robotic vision, physical AI, real hardware, and industrial deployments.
Fully equipped lab with real robots and products operating on factory floors.
Opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities as the mechatronics function grows.
Hiring process
Apply to join the team developing intelligent robots and physical automation products.
