Staff+ Software Engineer, Deployment (AI)

Location: Remote-friendly, with travel required; staff are expected to work from one of the San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City offices at least 25% of the time, and some roles may require more office time.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

What you will do

• Set technical direction for major deployment-platform components and own their design, implementation, and production operations.
• Build progressive delivery, health-gated promotion, automatic pause and rollback, and self-service deployment controls.
• Design APIs and abstractions for engineers and AI agents, and extend the platform to Kubernetes, serverless, and edge workloads.
• Operate runtime configuration and feature-flag systems with validation, gradual rollout, and fast rollback.
• Build infrastructure-as-code workflows and scale artifact and configuration distribution across a large machine fleet.
• Partner with Security, onboard teams to the platform, participate in on-call and incident response, and turn incidents into preventive guardrails.

Requirements

• Proficiency in at least one backend or systems programming language such as Rust, Go, C++, or Java.
• Experience leading the design, implementation, and operation of distributed systems or production infrastructure, including technical direction across teams.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and containerized workloads, such as Kubernetes on AWS or GCP.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role.
• Experience requirements will correlate with the internal job-level requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale deployment, release, or change-management systems; production on-call; or incident response.
• Production Rust, progressive delivery, GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Argo Rollouts, and deep Kubernetes knowledge including controllers and operators.
• Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code systems at scale, including state management and locking.
• Experience building feature-flag, experimentation, dynamic-configuration, artifact-distribution, or package-distribution systems.
• Experience with software supply-chain security, high-throughput workflow engines, relational-database-backed control planes, or internal developer platforms.
• Experience using AI agents in engineering work or building systems operated by agents.
