Product Design Engineering Co-op (Advanced Development)

Location: Needham, MA, United States; full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days onsite. No relocation or housing assistance.

Hourly salary: $27–$36 USD.

What you will do

• Generate user-centered product concepts focused on ergonomics, aesthetics, and functional innovation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define solutions that meet functional requirements and improve user experience.
• Lead and participate in design studies addressing technical and user-experience challenges.
• Build and test rapid, low-fidelity physical prototypes and use findings from user testing to iterate designs.
• Apply curiosity and resilience to rethink everyday product design challenges.

Requirements

• Be a current third-year-or-beyond bachelor's student, current master's student, or a graduate of either program within the past year.
• Be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, onsite five days a week in Needham, Massachusetts.
• Academic focus in Industrial Design, Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with industrial design coursework, or a related field.
• Enthusiasm for user-centered product design, form, and function.
• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Rhino, plus basic prototyping tools including 3D printing.
• Hands-on experience building physical prototypes with materials such as plastic and metal, and familiarity with machine shop equipment.
• Strong communication skills for presenting ideas, concepts, and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong intuition for mechanical engineering and physics principles, applied to product design, ergonomics, and human-centered engineering.
• Analytical, detail-oriented, creative, intellectually curious, hands-on, able to manage multiple projects, and flexible when priorities change.

Nice to have

• Basic understanding of electronics and components used in small appliances, including motors, sensors, and PCBAs.
• Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other developer kits.
