Senior Research Scientist (Chemistry)

What you will do

• Recommend and lead research programs focused on new molecules, formulations, novel polymers, and advanced materials.
• Design and execute experiments involving polymerization, structure-property relationships, materials performance, and chemical processes.
• Analyze and interpret data from NMR, FTIR, GPC, DSC, TGA, rheology, and other characterization techniques.
• Use patent searches, literature reviews, conferences, academic collaboration, and open innovation to identify and accelerate research programs.
• Collaborate with product development, engineering, and manufacturing to translate laboratory research into commercial applications.
• Maintain safety, regulatory, environmental, laboratory documentation, technical reporting, and scientific publication standards.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of laboratory experience.
• Background in at least one of small-molecule or polymer synthesis; adhesive, additive, or formulation development for oil and gas, mining, or agricultural applications.
• Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation and polymer/material characterization techniques.
• Ability to identify, design, and lead independent research projects.
• Strong problem-solving, creative, inquisitive, organizational, self-direction, and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing technical documents and presenting findings.
• Strong computer skills with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical programs such as JMP and/or MiniTab.
• Employment requires being at least 18 years old, completing a drug test and background investigation, and authorizing additional periodic background checks under CFATS or applicable regulations.

Nice to have

• Industrial or applied research experience.
• Familiarity with thermosets, thermoplastics, bio-based polymers, adhesives, and chemical products or formulations for oil and gas, mining, or agricultural applications.
• Experience with scale-up and process development.
• Knowledge of REACH, TSCA, and other regulatory requirements for chemical products.
