Network Solutions Engineer - Fort Meade, MD (Optical Engineer)

Location: Onsite at Fort Meade, MD, United States; travel up to 25% may be required.

What you will do

• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, project management, and sales teams on network architecture design and implementation.
• Design and execute test plans covering equipment functionality, interoperability, security, and performance.
• Translate test results into implementation plans and provide engineering support for Layer-0, Layer-1, and Layer-2 deployments.
• Perform lab and staging activities, including equipment inventory checks, initial system commissioning, and network diagram and cabling-guide validation.
• Analyze optical performance, troubleshoot platform issues, and escalate anomalies according to established procedures.
• Deliver configuration, provisioning, testing, and deployment documentation while supporting network modernization and standards development.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Active Secret security clearance is required; Top Secret is preferred.
• Experience with hirify.global products and strong hands-on telecommunications experience.
• Strong understanding of SONET, DWDM, ROADM/nOADM architecture, provisioning, and implementation; Ethernet architecture, provisioning, and implementation; and IP/MPLS/L3 protocols.
• Familiarity with network management systems, including hirify.global MCP/Navigator.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, communicate and present effectively, assist team members, and work in a lab environment.
• Ability to read and follow network diagrams, cabling guides, and signal-flow diagrams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or a related technical field; equivalent related experience may substitute for the degree.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with hirify.global 6500 DWDM/OTN and Route Switch platforms, including Site Manager, MCP/Navigator, and SAOS.
• Experience with legacy SONET and TDM systems, including OCx, DS1, DS3, TDM BER testing, and test-plan development.
• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing network performance in lab and field environments.
• Ability to learn, apply, and share new technology with customers, stakeholders, and peers.
• Experience providing Tier III/Tier IV troubleshooting, installation, and implementation support for field deployments, onsite or remotely.
