Field Technician I (Fiber Optics)

Location: Onsite in Boise, Idaho, USA. The role requires rotational 24x7 on-call availability, standby, call-outs, dispatch, overtime, and work in all weather conditions.

Salary: $41,310–$54,570 annual base salary for positions in Idaho.

What you will do

• Manage deliveries, replenishment, shipping and receiving, tools, test sets, electronic equipment, spares, and on-site or truck materials.
• Install, provision, test, maintain, change, and decommission transmission, Ethernet, SONET, IP, wavelength, fiber optic transport, edge compute, and customer premise equipment.
• Troubleshoot network equipment, replace defective modules, isolate faults, restore service, and monitor or locate routes during service interruptions.
• Use industry-standard hardware and software to locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities.
• Perform DC power installations and level 1 preventive maintenance and inspections on network equipment, HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
• Update installation records, inventory, time logs, trouble tickets, provisioning and materials systems, and provide status reports and escalation information.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or up to 2 years of relevant job experience, including 1+ year in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance and repair.
• Entry-level technician knowledge or experience in at least one discipline: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers and higher-layer protocols), or Outside Plant (fiber locating, OTDR, mass fusion splicing).
• Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, rights-of-way, and as-builts.
• Ability to maintain site security and cleanliness.
• PC skills and proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
• Ability to quickly learn corporate databases and required operational systems.
• Availability for rotational 24x7 on-call work, standby, call-outs, dispatch, and overtime as required by the business.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift 50 pounds; and work in all weather conditions.
