Senior Bioinformatics & Genomics Data System Engineer (Genomics)

Compensation: $125,800–$157,200 USD annually

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, validate, maintain, and update software tools, data platforms, cloud platforms, automation systems, and analytics systems.
• Deliver robust production software and systems, including tools for high-throughput and computationally intensive workloads.
• Create system architecture and infrastructure design documents with DSPE leadership.
• Monitor and optimize performance across network I/O, disk I/O, RAM, CPU, and storage metrics.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and training materials.
• Train and coach DSPE members and represent Software Engineering & DevOps in stakeholder meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field; advanced degrees are preferred.
• Relevant industry experience: at least 6 years with a bachelor’s degree, 3 years with a master’s degree, or 2 years with a doctorate.
• At least 3 years of experience in a highly regulated environment, such as CLIA- or FDA-compliant settings.
• At least 3 years of experience in a Software Engineering or DevOps team.
• Experience developing and maintaining custom software tools or systems for production environments, preferably in high-throughput settings.
• Experience creating software design specifications, verification and validation documents, and user manuals.
• Strong bioinformatics and genomics knowledge, including NGS technologies and BCL, FASTQ, BAM, and VCF file types.
• Excellent Python skills with bioinformatics, genomics application, or automation-system development experience.
• Strong AWS knowledge and production experience with services such as Batch, ECS, S3, EC2, and HealthOmics.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL and production database-based application development.
• Knowledge of performance, scalability, and reliability optimization for genomics-scale data; performance evaluation involving RAM, disk I/O, and network I/O.
• Knowledge of SDLC, software development and testing methodologies, Linux command-line and application development, Git workflows, GitHub and/or GitLab, and automation solutions.
