Senior QEC Researcher (AI/ML)

Location: Delft, Netherlands; hybrid

Salary: €70,000–€90,000 per year, depending on experience

What you will do

• Conduct original, high-impact quantum error correction research across architectures, codes, logic, and physical implementations while considering hardware constraints.
• Develop and evaluate AI/ML techniques, prototypes, algorithms, and proof-of-concept applications for intelligent, adaptive, and scalable QEC tools.
• Translate research ideas into practical capabilities and integrate resulting models into the QEC stack.
• Collaborate with QEC researchers, AI/ML engineers, software engineers, hardware teams, and product teams.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor researchers with less QEC experience, and help shape research directions aligned with the product roadmap.
• Publish and present research, engage with academic collaborators and partners, and communicate findings through technical documentation.

Requirements

• PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven ability to conduct high-quality theoretical work, such as through publications.
• In-depth knowledge of quantum error correction.
• Experience with NumPy and SciPy, and with QEC simulation and decoding tools such as Stim or PyMatching.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Python and/or C++, together with software engineering practices including version control, testing, and code review.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience guiding and mentoring colleagues with less QEC experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas to varied audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience conducting or leading QEC research demonstrated through scientific publications.
• Knowledge of quantum LDPC codes.
• Understanding of one or more qubit modalities, such as superconducting, trapped-ion, neutral-atom, or photonic systems.
• Experience using machine learning for QEC research, demonstrated through scientific publications or open-source projects.
