Senior Backend Engineer (Apache Spark)

What you will do

• Lead the backend and data direction of the team and grow backend and data capabilities for frontend-oriented engineers.
• Develop end-to-end client-facing and data infrastructure features, from data processing and database selection to data modeling and implementation.
• Collaborate with product managers and software engineers to deliver complex analytics products.
• Analyze and improve the performance, scalability, and stability of systems, environments, and tools.
• Optionally contribute to meetups, conferences, blog posts, and open-source projects.

Requirements

• 5+ years of development experience with a passion for excellence.
• Experience in data engineering focused on Apache Spark with Scala or PySpark.
• Experience with high-throughput, low-latency, mission-critical distributed systems.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent qualification.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale production databases, Airflow, and production-grade BigQuery ETL and databases.
• Strong server-side skills.
• Experience with production-grade Go or Clojure backend services.
• An AI mindset, including keeping up with the AI landscape and exploring tools such as Cursor or GitHub Copilot.
