Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Kaunas or Vilnius, Lithuania; hybrid work with 2 recommended office days per week.

Gross monthly salary: €5,250–€7,100 EUR.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for merchant onboarding, payment processing, transactions, and POS capabilities.
• Integrate securely and reliably with payment providers such as Adyen and other external services.
• Own backend solutions from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Design resilient distributed workflows covering asynchronous events, retries, failures, and data consistency.
• Collaborate with Android engineers, QA, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver merchant experiences.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, RFCs, code reviews, observability, feature flags, experimentation, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Good understanding of distributed systems, API design, databases, asynchronous processing, and reliable service integrations.
• Experience designing maintainable systems and making technical decisions focused on scalability and operational reliability.
• Product-minded approach, including navigating ambiguity and balancing engineering quality with business priorities.
• Ability to own complex problems from requirements through production delivery and operation.
• Clear communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Comfort working in fast-paced, iterative environments and using data and feedback to improve products.
• Experience leveraging AI-driven engineering tools and workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with Point of Sale systems, payment processing, financial transactions, or payment service provider integrations.
