Associate or Senior Editor, Communications AI & Computing

Location: Hybrid, based in the Shanghai, Beijing, Berlin, Madrid, Pune, or New Delhi office.

What you will do

• Make editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts using expert advice and journal policies.
• Develop editorial policies and guidelines for AI and computational science research, with a focus on open science.
• Advise authors on titles, abstracts, introductions, structure, accessibility, and reporting standards.
• Recruit, support, and guide external editors in applying the journal’s policies and philosophy.
• Commission Reviews, Perspectives, Comment articles, special projects, and collections.
• Attend conferences and research-institution meetings, report on activities, and promote published work through press releases and Research Highlights.

Requirements

• PhD-level research experience in machine learning, including algorithm development, computational social science, computational neuroscience, and/or computational linguistics.
• Experience in other AI-related disciplines is welcome, particularly where there is clear ethical and policy relevance.
• Ability to assess the novelty, context, and implications of research submitted across different disciplines.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for science, broad interest in scientific research, and willingness to learn.
• Willingness to meet scientists worldwide online and in person and engage with their research.

Nice to have

• Editorial experience, postdoctoral experience, and broad training.
• Experience or strength in AI ethics and human-machine interaction.
