Чётко очерченная инженерная роль в хорошо финансируемом fusion-стартапе даёт редкий опыт создания производственных систем для перспективной чистой энергетики, но предполагает работу на площадке и неопределённость стартапа.
Mechanical Design Engineer (Manufacturing) (Fusion Manufacturing): Designing and building machines, fixtures, tooling, and repeatable production processes for high-temperature superconducting magnet coils with an accent on precision mechanical design, equipment commissioning, and manufacturability. Focus on validating designs through calculations and testing, debugging equipment on the shop floor, and driving process improvements from root cause analysis.
Location: Munich, Germany; on-site
Company
hirify.global is a Germany-based fusion company developing hardware and infrastructure for commercial stellarator fusion power plants.
What you will do
Design manufacturing equipment, fixtures, tooling, and subsystems for high-temperature superconducting magnet coils across the full equipment life cycle.
Validate design decisions through proof-of-concept calculations, benchtop testing, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design reviews.
Own BOMs, specifications, drawings, design changes, assembly procedures, commissioning, and equipment operation documentation.
Work hands-on with technicians during equipment build, assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and design or process iteration.
Drive non-conformances to root cause and convert findings into process and design improvements, including DFM/DFA input for magnet designs.
Select and manage external vendors and machine shops and recommend equipment, tooling, and facility improvements for production scale-up.
Requirements
4–6 years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering, ideally involving complex electromechanical systems, automated equipment, or precision assemblies.
Strong CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks, including GD&T and drawing creation for fabrication and inspection.
Experience designing parts and equipment using machining, sheet metal, welding, and fabricated assemblies.
Hands-on experience building, assembling, and debugging equipment or prototypes.
Solid technical writing skills for work instructions, assembly procedures, and design documentation.
Comfort with ambiguity and rapidly changing requirements in a fast-paced startup environment.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Nice to have
Exposure to automation systems, control cabinets, PLCs, or industrial sensors.
Experience with FEA tools such as SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys for structural or thermal analysis.
Familiarity with cryogenics, vacuum systems, or superconducting and high-precision electromechanical hardware.
Experience with PLM or MES tools for BOM and change management.
Rapid prototyping skills using 3D printing, mills, lathes, or hand tools.
Culture & Benefits
On-site work in Munich within a growing team across Munich, Zurich, and Oxford.
Work on advanced manufacturing technology and commercial stellarator fusion hardware.
Build production lines, tooling, and processes from the ground up in a fast-moving startup environment.
Operate in a diverse, collaborative environment focused on different perspectives, challenging assumptions, and purposeful execution.
Hiring process
Recruiter interview lasting 30–60 minutes.
Technical screening lasting 30 minutes, followed by a technical panel with three 60-minute interviews.
30-minute CEO call; the role is positioned at L2/L3 in the company framework.
