Security Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Australian citizenship is mandatory, and candidates must be able to obtain or currently hold a National Police Clearance; Australian Federal Government Security Clearance at Baseline level or higher is preferred. The work model prioritizes in-person collaboration.

What you will do

• Facilitate the onboarding, management, troubleshooting, and operational delivery of managed cybersecurity services.
• Assist with high-priority infrastructure and security incidents.
• Maintain security policies, configurations, and compliance in line with or above industry best practices.
• Perform daily operational tasks to meet managed-service SLAs and identify opportunities to automate repetitive administration.
• Implement tasks required by security projects and keep current with security technologies, trends, and emerging AI-driven security tools.
• Liaise with vendors and their technical support or engineering teams to provide advanced-level support.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience working in IT/OT security operations for medium-sized and/or large enterprises.
• Experience implementing, managing, and troubleshooting some of the following technologies: NGFW using Check Point or an equivalent; web proxy using Forcepoint or an equivalent; and email security using Proofpoint or an equivalent.
• Experience working in cloud environments, including Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience in high-priority incident response.
• Relevant industry or vendor certifications such as CISSP, Microsoft AZ-900 or another Microsoft Security certification, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and Check Point CCSE.
• Understanding of the OSI model from TCP/IP through the application layer, with the ability to troubleshoot and perform analysis.
• Ability to work collaboratively as a strong team player with a can-do attitude.
• Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain or current possession of a National Police Clearance.

Nice to have

• Australian Federal Government Security Clearance at Baseline level or higher.
• Proficiency with high-level programming or scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
• Knowledge of deploying and managing network security controls using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Experience using RESTful APIs to automate firewall rule provisioning, policy management, and reporting.
• Familiarity with AI technologies, including AI-assisted scripting tools, automated threat intelligence, or AI-driven SIEM analytics.
