Staff Software Engineer, Data (AI)

Location: Remote; the stated annual salary range applies to candidates hired within the United States.

Annual base salary: $175,500–$230,000 USD, plus eligible equity and benefits.

Stability AI develops generative AI models and the data and infrastructure used to operate the business and train those models.

What you will do

• Own the company data platform end to end, including the AWS S3/Athena/Glue lake, dbt project, ingestion pipelines, Postgres serving layer and integrations with business systems.
• Connect billing, CRM, ERP, identity and telemetry systems so revenue, usage, cloud cost and customer identity reconcile automatically.
• Design and maintain dimensional models, data contracts, quality tests, lineage, catalogs and PII access tiers in partnership with Product Engineering, Security and Legal.
• Process billions of telemetry rows and terabyte-scale log streams using Iceberg, partitioning, cost controls and distributed infrastructure.
• Own orchestration and infrastructure on EKS, Helm and Terraform, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting and the business-hours on-call rotation for daily pipelines.
• Build and operate multimodal research-data pipelines for sourcing, licensing checks, ingestion, versioning, generation, filtering, deduplication and captioning of audio, video, image and 3D datasets on SLURM and cloud storage; lead design reviews, mentor teammates, write runbooks and partner across Finance, Marketing, SRE, Security, Product and Research.

Requirements

• 6+ years building and running production data platforms, including architecture ownership.
• Experience integrating SaaS business systems such as Stripe, HubSpot, an ERP and an identity provider into a warehouse.
• Production experience preparing large multimodal training datasets and running batch workloads on HPC or cloud schedulers such as SLURM or Kubernetes.
• Expert SQL and Python, with strong software engineering practices including tests, code review and CI.
• Warehouse and lake experience with real modelling using Iceberg or Delta on S3, Athena/Trino, Snowflake or BigQuery, and dbt.
• Production experience with an orchestrator such as dbt, Airflow or Argo, and distributed processing such as Spark or an equivalent.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, Helm and Terraform, including debugging Glue jobs and Helm releases.
• Ability to work independently in a small team with substantial ownership.

Nice to have

• Prior 0-to-1 platform ownership at a startup.
• Experience working with research teams on generative models or hands-on exposure to audio, video, image or 3D data.
• FinOps and cloud cost-reporting experience.
• Familiarity with SOC 2 or similar compliance requirements for data access.
