Software Developer 1 (AI)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Base pay: CAD 94,000–127,000 per year; the position may also be eligible for a cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Deliver software end to end through requirements, design, coding, testing, documentation, and release, with approximately 80–95% hands-on coding.
• Build AI agent tools, skills, and orchestration logic that help customers upload, photograph, and import tax documents in TurboTax.
• Develop customer-facing capture flows, upload progress indicators, and document summary cards with designers and product managers.
• Deliver features across multiple services and repositories while coordinating with owning teams and maintaining focused pull requests.
• Improve resilience through error handling, timeouts, retries, fallback paths, telemetry, and clickstream analytics.
• Run AI evaluation suites and analyze production traces, participate in bug bashes and incident response, resolve defects, and contribute to technical debt reduction and operational excellence.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 0–2 years of professional software development experience; internships and co-ops count.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Java/Kotlin, with willingness to work across frontend and backend.
• Experience building or consuming web services and REST APIs.
• Understanding of the SDLC, Git-based workflows, code review, unit testing, and Test-Driven Development.
• Curiosity, willingness to learn unfamiliar areas, ownership of problems from start to finish, and a self-starter attitude.
• Clear written and verbal communication and strong partnership skills.
