Lead Data Engineer (Python)

Location: United Kingdom; candidates must live within reasonable travelling distance of a hirify.global office and be open to travelling to and working at a hirify.global or client site at least 2 days per week. Offices are located in Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, London and Bristol. Relocation support of up to £8,000 is available, subject to terms and conditions.

What you will do

• Act as a technical subject-matter expert and Lead Consultant for data engineering practices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to explore, design and deliver solutions to complex client problems.
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, resolving issues and preventing bottlenecks.
• Prioritise delivery-team workloads and realign plans as priorities evolve.
• Present technical solutions and delivery progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead engineer recruitment and onboarding, support professional development, contribute to technical bids and proposals, and represent the Data Herd through blogs, workshops and conferences.

Requirements

• Excellent experience delivering in Python and experience with at least one other core programming language.
• Excellent experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Solid experience with a cloud provider such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Solid experience with Snowflake and dbt.
• Strong experience working with data formats including CSV, JSON and XML.
• Expertise in building reliable data pipelines.
• Experience as a technical leader on complex projects, including managing stakeholder expectations and coaching others toward optimal solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mastery of Agile environments and CI/CD practices, plus the ability to define team working procedures and methodologies.

• Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
• Experience in data modelling.
