Data Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Own the data model for a business area, including entities, grain, dimensional models, metrics, definitions, and source-of-truth boundaries.
• Co-own KPI definitions and priorities with stakeholders and the manager, translating business questions into data requirements.
• Perform analysis and data development according to the needs of the business area.
• Build validation rules and monitoring for data models, investigate data issues end to end, explain business impact, and add preventive tests.
• Document models, glossaries, AI context, and automations so knowledge can be reused across the data department.
• Use agentic development and analysis with SQL, dbt, Python, and documentation while applying human review to data quality work that informs business decisions.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar data role; assessment is based on what has been built rather than a specific number of years.
• Deep practical knowledge of dimensional modelling, including grain, keys, slowly changing dimensions, and semantic correctness.
• Advanced SQL and query optimisation on a cloud or MPP warehouse, with strong experience in either BigQuery or Vertica.
• Hands-on dbt experience for transformation and modelling, plus familiarity with Airflow, Cloud Composer, or an equivalent orchestration tool.
• Working knowledge of a business area and the ability to connect data work to business outcomes.
• Experience working directly with non-technical stakeholders, including translating business questions into data requirements, presenting findings, and challenging a brief when the data contradicts it.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Daily use of AI-assisted or agentic development and analysis, including writing reliable context for an agentic assistant.
• Python for automation and lightweight services.
• Experience with data contracts, testing frameworks, or data observability tooling.
• Experience serving as the reference data person embedded in a business team.
• Experience with semantic or metric layers consumed by BI tools and AI agents.
• Experience in travel, online travel agencies, marketplaces, or another high-volume transactional business.

Hiring process

• HR interview lasting 10–30 minutes.
• Manager interview covering soft skills and technical knowledge, followed by an online technical evaluation including AI usage.
• Second manager and team-member interview to review the test, followed by an offer; a final Director meeting applies only to senior roles.
