Staff Data Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Own the technical design and direction of the data platform supporting products, partners, analysts, engineers, and AI agents.
• Build governed data products spanning the customer journey from sales and lending through installation, interconnection, and system production.
• Define semantic context, documentation, and interfaces so AI agents can answer from governed definitions with traceability to source data.
• Implement classification, masking, access policies, change control, and compliance readiness for SOC 2 and related audits.
• Build and operate ingestion and orchestration pipelines with CI/CD, observability, alerting, and SLAs.
• Design secure, authorized, low-latency data access interfaces; review code, mentor teammates, and provide engineering templates and CI checks.

Requirements

• 8+ years of data engineering experience, including time at Staff or lead level owning a platform used by multiple teams.
• Deep experience with SQL and Python.
• Strong database fundamentals in a modern analytical warehouse such as Snowflake or BigQuery, including schema design, query plans, and distributed computing.
• Deep experience with dbt or an adjacent transformation framework such as SQLMesh or Dataform.
• Experience with ETL orchestration such as Fivetran or Airflow.
• Experience with infrastructure as code and container orchestration on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Demonstrated agentic engineering beyond prompting, including running coding agents in loops checked by specifications and tests.
• Experience producing design documents that resolve cross-team architecture questions and communicating clearly with non-technical partners.
• Working knowledge of API design, authentication and authorization such as OAuth/OIDC and RBAC, and PII handling.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of reporting tools such as Looker and Hex.
