Director, Critical Environments - Engineering (Data Center)

Location: Austin, Texas, USA; Remote. Ability to travel up to 30–40%.

Salary: $144,500–$170,000 per year.

What you will do

• Provide engineering support and oversight for data center environments, ensuring continuous uptime, system redundancy, Tier-level compliance, and SLA adherence.
• Lead engineering activities for power distribution, cooling infrastructure, fire suppression, building automation, HVAC, MEP, security, and life-safety systems.
• Partner with data center operations teams, site stakeholders, clients, IT, facilities, and project management teams on business continuity, incident response, capacity planning, and infrastructure scalability.
• Ensure compliance with Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, NFPA, OSHA, building codes, and other applicable standards; support audits, documentation, technical programs, and procedures.
• Conduct site inspections and physical, mechanical, electrical, and systems assessments; review supplier and technician performance.
• Lead client and corporate initiatives, support project scopes, contract negotiations and bid reviews, and maintain a network of qualified technical consultants and service providers.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Two-year technical degree plus 3–5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• Experience working in a data center environment and a minimum of 10 years of commercial property experience.
• At least 3 years of management-level experience in facilities or property maintenance, engineering, building systems installation and operation, project management, and supervision of skilled trades and technical staff.
• Experience in building operations and managing both unionized and non-unionized employees.
• Operating Engineers License as required by local jurisdictions, or equivalent.
• Technical proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and control systems used in property management, including plumbing, HVAC, and electrical distribution systems.
• Expertise in property operations management and cost controls; knowledge and application of commercial building codes and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and BAS SOO.
• Strong understanding of project management processes and basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to prepare and present detailed reports, write professional correspondence and procedural manuals, and present information to managers, clients, and internal and external customers.
• Ability to define problems, assess relevant data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, implement solutions and repairs, delegate work, and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
• Communication, interpersonal, organizational, technical, and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Completion of technical school studies relating to HVAC design and maintenance.
