Senior Engineering Manager (Analytics Platform)

Location: Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario or Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Hybrid schedule with office attendance 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and one flex day; remote work is available for up to 4 weeks per year.

Salary: $190,500–$262,000 per year in Canada, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Directly manage, mentor, and grow a team of 8 engineers while supporting career development and higher levels of impact.
• Set the technical vision and roadmap for data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, foundational datasets, BI tooling, and integrations.
• Lead scoping, planning, prioritization, team structure, and process decisions across short-term needs and long-term platform investments.
• Maintain data integrity, security, privacy, governance, reliability, operational excellence, monitoring, alerting, and cost tracking.
• Build AI/LLM-powered analytics tooling and automation, and triage production issues while improving infrastructure and processes to prevent recurring defects.
• Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Finance, and Product Engineering; stay involved in architecture, designs, code, vendor relationships, and engineering hiring.

Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience, including at least 3+ years in engineering leadership positions.
• Experience building and operating data platforms, including data warehousing, ETL pipelines, orchestration, and analytics engineering workflows.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, with willingness to write software for a couple of months during onboarding.
• Understanding of performance, capacity, and cost trade-offs in data processing systems.
• Experience diagnosing, mitigating, and addressing data-system production issues at scale.
• Track record of building platforms or tooling with high adoption and strong internal customer empathy.
• Track record of leading teams to higher contribution levels and helping engineers grow their careers.
• Ability to bring clarity and structure to ambiguous, cross-functional problems, with strong communication across technical and non-technical partners.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses.
• Experience leading through other managers.
• Postgraduate degree in computer science, data science, data analytics, or mathematics.
