Staff Software Engineer, Code Search (AI)

What you will do

• Design, prototype, implement, test, ship, and support highly performant, globally scalable lexical and semantic code search technology for hirify.global and Copilot products.
• Develop and extend Blackbird, including integration with AI agents and AI-powered software development workflows.
• Design and implement APIs, architecture proposals, code experiments, and integrations across hirify.global services and partner teams.
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship, pairing, code reviews, and technical roadmap development.
• Own system health, reliability, telemetry, debugging, performance optimization, and participation in first-responder on-call rotations and live incidents.
• Work with engineering and partner teams to define constraints, communicate plans, and consistently ship products, features, and bug fixes.

Requirements

• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline, with experience maintaining and delivering production software in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Alternatively, an Associate’s Degree in a listed technical field and at least 8 years of relevant experience; a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field and at least 7 years; a relevant Master’s Degree and at least 5 years; a relevant Doctorate and at least 3 years; or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work autonomously, learn quickly, communicate effectively, and set technical direction.

Nice to have

• Experience building or operating web-scale search, information retrieval, or context retrieval systems.
• Expertise with systems programming languages, ideally Rust.
• Experience designing or integrating AI/ML-powered features into production systems.
• Experience solving problems with large-scale distributed systems.
