Field Network Engineer (ITS Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid, with field work and data center operations across Washington, DC; travel to field locations in the District is required. Valid driver's license, ability to lift and rack equipment up to 50 lbs, scheduled maintenance participation, and after-hours emergency on-call availability are required.

Rate: $65.00/hour on 1099 or $60.00/hour on W2.

What you will do

• Deploy and support Cisco DMVPN Phase 2/Phase 3 hub-and-spoke and spoke-to-spoke overlay networks over Metro Ethernet.
• Configure and troubleshoot IPsec VPN profiles, GRE tunnels, NHRP mappings, tunnel interfaces, and dynamic routing with BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
• Design failover and redundancy using dual-WAN, LTE/5G backup paths, and carrier handoffs; monitor tunnel health, latency, throughput, availability, and service-level compliance.
• Install and cut over routers, switches, cabinets, and handoff equipment at field sites, including cabinet upgrades with power and environmental requirements.
• Manage VLANs, IP addressing, Layer 2/Layer 3 connectivity, VRFs, firewall segmentation, and QoS for latency-sensitive signal control and video traffic.
• Support traffic signal control, CCTV, and IoT systems; troubleshoot end-to-end connectivity, migrate legacy aggregation points, maintain documentation, and support security audits and remediation.

Requirements

• US Citizen or Green Card holder status is required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations across Washington, DC are required.
• Ability to lift and rack network equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
• Hands-on senior-level network engineering experience with Cisco DMVPN, IPsec, GRE, NHRP, and tunnel interfaces.
• Experience with BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, Metro Ethernet services including E-Line and E-LAN, dual-WAN redundancy, VLANs, VRFs, firewall policies, and QoS.
• Ability to work in field and data center environments and troubleshoot connectivity from field sites through WAN transport to data centers.
• Availability for scheduled maintenance windows and after-hours emergency on-call response.
• A national criminal background check is required before starting; federal background checks are not compliant. Recent extensive driving, drug, robbery, or other illegal activity within the previous seven years prevents submission, and any criminal activity on the check eliminates consideration.
