Perception & Mapping Intern (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Mountain View, San Francisco, or Pittsburgh, United States; workplace type listed as remote, with an expectation to work from the office at least 3 days per week.

Salary: $52–$65 per hour depending on location and whether the intern is pursuing a master's or doctoral degree.

What you will do

• Develop onboard and/or offboard perception or mapping models to improve autonomous vehicle performance.
• Process camera, radar, and lidar data to detect and track objects, actors, signs, traffic lights, and hazards.
• Analyze system deficiencies, identify root causes, and help resolve false positives, false negatives, and misclassifications.
• Work with large real-world datasets across training, evaluation, visualization, and debugging pipelines.
• Partner with full-time engineers on the next generation of perception and mapping systems.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong machine learning and computer vision fundamentals.
• Hands-on deep learning experience with PyTorch or a comparable framework, including model training and debugging.
• Proficiency in Python and C++.
• Comfort working with large datasets across training, evaluation, and debugging pipelines.
• Experience building and training a perception or mapping model end-to-end, rather than only fine-tuning an existing backbone.

Nice to have

• Experience with vision-language models or other pretrained foundation models.
• Prior publication record at a top-tier venue.
• Knowledge of object tracking, Kalman filtering, or Hidden Markov models.
