Data Platform Product Owner

Location: Hybrid in Boston, MA or Chicago, IL, with in-office presence at least 1 day per week

Annual salary: $141,000–$169,000 in Chicago or $147,000–$176,000 in Boston, plus discretionary performance compensation.

What you will do

• Translate the Product Manager’s roadmap into actionable delivery plans and continuously prioritize the product backlog based on business value.
• Partner with business stakeholders, data owners, Product Owners, Solution Architects, Engineering Managers, and technology teams to define data domains, schemas, access models, and product requirements in Databricks.
• Coordinate approvals for sensitive or restricted datasets and establish scalable standards, guardrails, and best practices for data governance and platform delivery.
• Lead feature releases, upgrades, platform optimizations, new data domains, enhancements, defects, and maintenance requests with technical teams and third parties.
• Measure customer value through pilots, surveys, sprint reviews, KPIs, and feedback mechanisms; develop user communication, marketing, and training strategies.
• Monitor high-usage data assets and pipelines, support proactive reliability monitoring, participate in Agile ceremonies, and identify opportunities involving emerging technologies including AI.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 5+ years of experience in data delivery, data warehousing, or related areas.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing, data platforms, data integration, and translating business requirements into technical data engineering requirements.
• Direct experience with modern data platform technologies; Databricks is preferred.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and familiarity with data governance, including data domains, access controls, data ownership, approval workflows, and Databricks Unity Catalog.
• Familiarity with data quality frameworks and proactive monitoring.
• Strong prioritization, organization, analytical, communication, and stakeholder-influencing skills, including the ability to build consensus and communicate with engineering teams and leadership.
• Ability to understand complex business needs and industry trends and translate them into customer-facing solutions.
• Leadership mindset, ability to positively influence team culture and morale, vendor management experience, and willingness to travel as needed.

Nice to have

• Agile Product Owner certification.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks and Databricks Unity Catalog.
