Senior Database Engineer II (SQL Server)

Location: Remote-first; reliable cable or fiber-optic broadband with minimum speeds of 10 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload required for remote work.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize database solutions for mission-critical, high-transaction systems.
• Design schemas and data models for business requirements and entities.
• Develop stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, constraints, and deployment and rollback scripts.
• Analyze access patterns, indexes, constraints, foreign keys, and queries to improve performance.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues and develop short-term fixes and long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, and DevOps teams on data architecture, prototypes, AWS, microservices, and cloud-native technologies.

Requirements

• B.S. in Computer Science or a related field with 5+ years of related experience, or an M.S. degree with 3+ years of experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server development experience.
• Expert knowledge of SQL Server, including writing and deploying triggers, stored procedures, and user-defined functions.
• Authoritative understanding of SQL Server concurrency features, transactions, and locking, with excellent data modeling and schema design skills covering normalization and denormalization.
• Thorough understanding of database maintenance, including index and file management, backups, failure recovery, database defragmentation, documentation, disk space analysis, hardware utilization, and automated error notification.
• Basic SQL Server administration skills, including backups, restores, taking and reverting snapshots, user and role security, and access permissions.
• Experience operating SQL Server in AWS using Amazon RDS for SQL Server, RDS Custom, or SQL Server on EC2.
• Familiarity with AWS microservices architecture and designing databases for microservice-based applications.
• Experience optimizing data access from microservices, including minimizing cross-service latency, designing efficient APIs, and minimizing coupling.
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, AWS ECS, or AWS EKS in a microservices context.
