System Engineer (Database Administration)

Location: Hybrid in Plovdiv, Varna, or Sofia, Bulgaria.

What you will do

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain database environments across development, staging, and production.
• Monitor database health and performance, optimize queries, indexes, and configurations, and perform capacity planning.
• Design and test backup, recovery, disaster recovery, high-availability, and failover solutions including clustering, replication, mirroring, and log shipping.
• Manage database security, access controls, permissions, encryption, and data protection compliance.
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations while minimizing business disruption.
• Troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root cause analysis, automate administration tasks, maintain documentation, and provide on-call support and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Database Administrator supporting enterprise production environments.
• Strong experience administering relational database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar technologies.
• Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Experience managing database security, access controls, encryption, compliance requirements, upgrades, migrations, and patching.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, schema design, and data modeling principles.
• Experience with scripting and automation for database administration, monitoring, capacity planning, and database health management.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills, along with excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and support critical production environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud database platforms in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with containerized or cloud-native database environments.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and database automation tools.
• Experience supporting large-scale data warehouse or analytics platforms.
• Experience in consulting or professional services environments.
