Reporter (Financial Markets)

What you will do

• Generate regular news stories for web and print, including exclusive news, conference stories and data-led articles.
• Research and write 2,000–3,000-word feature articles based on interviews with market participants and observers.
• Build reliable contacts across financial market segments and use them to generate and develop story ideas.
• Cover capital markets, foreign exchange, derivatives, market structure, electronic and automated trading, pricing, valuation and risk management.
• Report for a professional audience including banks, hedge funds, asset managers, regulators, exchanges, trading platforms and other market participants.

Requirements

• At least two years of proven journalism experience, ideally covering finance, capital markets or law.
• Knowledge of financial markets and their major players; interest in foreign exchange and derivatives is advantageous.
• Impeccable writing skills and the ability to explain complex topics in plain English.
• Confidence working with data and public datasets to find and support stories.
• A keen eye for detail and nuance.
• Willingness to learn about a broad range of financial topics.
• Ability to build and maintain strong source relationships and generate original story ideas.

Nice to have

• Experience covering capital markets, foreign exchange or derivatives.
• Ability to write with flair and, when appropriate, a sense of humour.
