TL;DR
Staff Instrumentation & Controls Engineer - Hardware (Nuclear): Designing, commissioning, and maintaining instrumentation and control hardware for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities with an accent on field instrumentation, control panels, safety instrumented systems, and hazardous-area installations. Focus on leading complex capital projects, verifying SIL architectures, commissioning control loops, and directing contractors and junior engineers.

Location: Orangeville, Utah, United States. Onsite role; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Company

hirify.global develops scalable high-temperature nuclear power and fuel-manufacturing technology for industrial, hydrogen, and next-generation manufacturing applications.

What you will do

  • Select, size, and specify field instrumentation, control valves, actuators, regulators, flow elements, and analytical devices.
  • Design control panels, remote I/O architectures, power distribution, intrinsic safety barriers, field wiring, and physical OT network infrastructure.
  • Own instrumentation documentation, hazardous-area classification, intrinsic safety calculations, and safety instrumented system hardware scope.
  • Commission and maintain instrumentation, tune PID and advanced regulatory loops, execute FAT, SAT, loop checks, calibration verification, and interlock testing.
  • Establish calibration, reliability, maintenance, spares, and obsolescence programs while diagnosing field faults and documenting corrective actions.
  • Lead contractors, vendors, and installation crews; coordinate with process, mechanical, piping, electrical, nuclear safety, and I&C software engineers; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Chemical, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of instrumentation or I&C engineering experience in process industries, including ownership of instrumentation scope on capital projects from specification through commissioning.
  • Experience specifying and sizing field instruments and control valves, and leading instrument index and data sheet development for capital projects.
  • Experience developing loop diagrams, hook-up drawings, I/O lists, and cable schedules.
  • Experience leading hazardous-area classification and intrinsic safety loop verification for new and modified installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets.
  • Experience with instrument calibration, loop checking, field commissioning, and regulatory control loop tuning.
  • Working knowledge of control panel design, I/O architecture, field wiring, grounding, shielding, signal segregation, and field protocols including 4-20 mA/HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA, and Modbus RTU.
  • Experience owning safety instrumented system hardware scope, including safety device selection, redundancy and voting architecture, proof test planning, and SIL verification calculations to IEC 61511.

Nice to have

  • ISA CAP, CCST, equivalent credentials, or a PE license or eligibility.
  • Experience with SIL verification, IEC 61511 lifecycle documentation, control valve and flow-element sizing software, and instrument asset management systems.
  • Experience with HART or Foundation Fieldbus device configuration and analytical instrumentation such as gas analyzers, mass spectrometry, moisture analyzers, pH, and conductivity measurement.
  • Experience with radiation monitoring, criticality monitoring, nuclear-qualified instrumentation, or instrumentation for corrosive, high-purity, high-temperature, or molten-salt service.
  • Experience with cleanroom, glovebox, or contamination-controlled environments.
  • Familiarity with GAMP 5, 21 CFR Part 11, NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, IEC 62443, or NIST SP 800-82.
  • Experience with electrical and instrumentation CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation/INtools, or AVEVA.

Culture & Benefits

  • High-impact startup environment with autonomy, ownership, and direct collaboration with experienced operators, engineers, and industry leaders.
  • Competitive base salary and equity ownership.
  • Comprehensive medical benefits and unlimited PTO.
  • Free daily lunch and a generous PPE stipend.
  • Opportunities for rapid career growth and internal advancement.
