Data Platform Engineer/Architect (Contractor)

What you will do

• Design and build a data warehouse from scratch across multiple source systems, including scalable modelling, ingestion pipelines, orchestration, and automated quality gates.
• Own data hygiene through cleansing, deduplication, validation rules, reconciliation, and monitoring.
• Define a governed semantic layer with shared metric and entity definitions.
• Deliver the first reporting layer with Power BI dashboards, drill-down reporting, and operational KPIs.
• Prepare the platform for AI through governance, access control, safe model access, embeddings, vector search, document processing, and retrieval design.
• Define an AI roadmap covering AI-assisted analytics, predictive models, internal assistants, agents, and workflow automation.

Requirements

• Substantial end-to-end experience designing and delivering data warehouses across multiple source systems.
• Experience designing and implementing modern data platforms on AWS, using Redshift, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, S3, QuickSight, or equivalent services.
• Strong ingestion and orchestration engineering experience with batch and incremental pipelines, automated quality gates, and monitoring.
• Demonstrable data quality and hygiene experience, including cleaning messy source data and making it trustworthy.
• Experience with semantic layers and dimensional modelling.
• BI delivery experience, ideally with Power BI, including dashboards, drill-downs, and operational KPI reporting.
• Knowledge of data governance fundamentals, including lineage, access control, and PII handling.
• Practical familiarity with AI data enablement, including RAG, embeddings, vector databases, or preparing data for model access.
• Ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate vague requests into a sequenced technical plan.

Nice to have

• Experience migrating data workloads from Azure or other cloud platforms to AWS.
• Feature engineering or ML enablement for forecasting, risk, or inventory planning use cases.
• Experience with natural-language analytics over a governed semantic model.
• Experience delivering an internal AI assistant, agent, or workflow automation.
• Domain exposure to supply chain, logistics, distribution, or food and agriculture.
