Principal Engineer (Go/Kubernetes/Kafka/Cassandra/Postgres)

Location: United Kingdom; flexible hybrid and remote options, with occasional travel to client sites or hirify.global offices when needed. Office hubs: Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, London and Bulgaria.

hirify.global provides engineering support for client platform programmes, including internationalisation and multi-region architecture initiatives.

What you will do

• Set the architecture direction across shared services and ensure each service can run in an isolated region without hidden dependencies on the original region.
• Keep the flagship consumer app’s internationalisation coherent as the underlying services evolve.
• Own how shared services interact across and within regions, acting as the architecture lead across multiple teams.
• Define data-residency decisions across Cassandra and Postgres, including what data is shared, regional, or prohibited from leaving a region.
• Design Kafka deployments that are self-contained within isolated regions and replicated across regions where required.
• Use Terraform and Kubernetes to provision new regions repeatably, with explicit regional configuration and visible drift; review the first region and identify launch blockers and future multi-region risks.

Requirements

• Experience standing up production systems in new isolated regions under data-residency rules and taking systems multi-region, including data and failover decisions.
• Experience leading architecture across several teams or services.
• Current senior-level Go experience and enough React experience to make confident changes.
• Deep working knowledge of Cassandra, Postgres and Kafka in distributed setups.
• Experience designing platforms with Kubernetes and Terraform, not only using them.
• Confidence challenging client decisions with evidence.
• Ability and willingness to improve the engineers around you.
• Ability to understand and own every line of code shipped when using AI tools.

Nice to have

• Experience in the client’s sports industry is not required.
• Experience with a specific cloud provider is not required.
• AI tools may be used in the workflow.
