Senior Engineer - Core MySQL, Database Platform (MySQL)

What you will do

• Build and maintain custom software and automation for operating MySQL at hirify.global's scale.
• Operate the database fleet, including virtual machine management, MySQL configuration and performance tuning, capacity planning, and resiliency testing.
• Own the connection management, backup, routing, proxy, and failover software supporting the database platform.
• Plan and execute changes to critical systems with a strong focus on correctness and identifying failure modes.
• Participate in a shared on-call rotation for hirify.global's database platform.
• Help evolve the data layer as the platform grows.

Requirements

• Strong grounding in infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems, with direct production ownership.
• Demonstrated software engineering ability, including writing and maintaining production code.
• Hands-on operational experience with stateful systems, including configuration and performance tuning, capacity planning, failure testing, and incident response.
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to de-risk changes to systems where failure is costly.
• Comfort carrying a pager for critical infrastructure and sound judgment about when to act or escalate.
• Effective use of AI tooling to accelerate work and address gaps.
• Availability for required on-call work.

Nice to have

• Deep MySQL experience, including internals, replication, backup and restore, proxying, and routing layers.
• Experience with Zookeeper or similar distributed systems.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience operating a large database fleet at a company of comparable scale.
