Developer Experience Engineer

Location: San Francisco Bay Area; hybrid

What you will do

• Own the architecture and health of the Nx-based monorepo, including project graphs, dependency boundaries, language toolchains, and code generation.
• Improve build and test speed, reliability, and incrementality at scale.
• Design and operate CI/CD pipelines with strong guarantees for correctness, reproducibility, caching, parallelism, secret flow, and release engineering.
• Build internal CLIs, scaffolding, local development stacks, and code-quality infrastructure using tools such as Tilt, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Own developer-facing deployment and environment workflows in partnership with Infrastructure.
• Operate build, CI, and development infrastructure with SLOs, observability, incident response, and on-call ownership.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building developer-facing infrastructure, monorepo platforms, build systems, CI/CD, or internal tooling.
• Hands-on experience with a modern monorepo tool such as Nx, Bazel, Pants, Buck, or Turborepo.
• Strong experience with CI/CD systems at scale, including matrix design, caching, secret flow, and parallelism.
• Fluency in at least two of Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust, or Bash.
• Experience shipping developer platforms adopted by engineering teams and measuring improvements in developer friction.
• Experience owning systems through design, implementation, rollout, adoption, observability, and operational support.

Nice to have

• Experience with remote build caches, custom or hermetic build pipelines, or polyrepo-to-monorepo migrations.
• Experience applying DORA, SPACE, or other developer-experience metrics.
• Background in release engineering, supply-chain security, artifact management, internal PaaS, development environments, or scaffolding generators.
• Experience with frontend platforms, design systems, Storybook, visual regression infrastructure, accessibility, or performance budgets.
• Open-source contributions to Nx plugins, GitHub Actions, or related developer tooling.
• Exposure to multi-tenant, regulated, or air-gapped deployment environments.
